At the only place where the Mississippi River runs east to west, the Quad Cities lines the riverbanks with Illinois on one side and Iowa on the other. With a combined population of more than 400,000 people, the Quad Cities area is comprised of Davenport and Bettendorf on the Iowa side, and Rock Island, Moline/East Moline on the Illinois side.
The Quad Cities area is the largest metropolitan area on the Mississippi between Minneapolis and St. Louis. In addition, the area is a popular destination along I-80, I-88, and I-74. Several major state highways also serve the area. The Quad Cities is just a 2 ½ hour drive from Chicago, Illinois, and Des Moines, Iowa.
